Copywriting Tips for Beginners – What the Pros Know Already
A copywriter is defined as a person who writes the text of advertisements or publicity material. As a new copywriter there are a few things you will need to know to become a confident professional.
Copywriting refers to any commercial writing from Body Copy, such as that found in sales letters and promotional brochures to headlines, slogans, jingles, taglines, and much more.
As a copywriter, your job is to persuade the reader to act by either buying a product or feeling a certain way. It will help to know your audience and know what they already feel or believe. Once you know what you are working with, your work is made a little easier.
Establish a strong sense of authority. If a reader senses that you are making it up as you go, you will lose them the second they realize you are bluffing. Be confident in your subject matter and it will show in your words. On the other hand, if you are a credible source of information on a particular subject you may be bombarded with offers to write about that particular subject.
Backup your claims with proof. People want to see proof, but they don’t want to be overwhelmed by it. Use technical explanation in small doses and only where it is necessary, but anecdotes are always a crowd pleaser because they are usually stories the reader can relate to and they help build a visual reference that is related to the subject you are writing about.
The last thing you need to do is call the reader to act. Explain to the reader what steps they can take to bridge the gap between their needs and your product or service. Where can they buy? How do they buy? Once you have sold the reader on the merits of your product they will need to have a way to resolve their feelings. Take the time to close the deal.
